Converted right here in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. You can still switch to any other format.

How to convert WebP to PNG in three steps

  1. Add your WebP images

Drag and drop, use the file picker, or paste with Ctrl+V. Add up to 30 WebP files of 25 MB each.

  2. Keep transparency on

Transparent areas stay transparent by default. You can fill them with a colour instead, or set a longest-side limit.

  3. Convert and download

Every PNG shows its before and after size. Save them one by one or use Download all as ZIP.

A private converter that runs in your browser

This converter runs on your device, so nothing is uploaded. Logos, client artwork and personal photos never leave your browser. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

PNG opens in nearly every editor, office suite and design software package, which makes it the safe choice when a program refuses a WebP.

Save a WebP as a PNG in one step

If your browser saved a picture as .webp, drop it here and download a PNG. The same steps work for any single WebP image to PNG, and no plugin is needed. Drop files in, paste with Ctrl+V or use the file picker.

Free, with no watermark

Every result is clean. There is no account to make and no daily limit wall.

Keeping the transparent background

Both WebP and PNG support an alpha channel, the part of an image that stores transparency. When you convert, each transparent and semi-transparent pixel is copied as it is, so a WebP to PNG transparent background survives exactly.

Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?

Yes. Transparency is kept by default, including soft edges and shadows. That is the main reason to choose PNG over JPG for a transparent logo or cut-out product photo.

Want a solid background instead?

Switch transparency off and pick any fill colour, such as white for a document or black for a slide. For a JPG with a background, use WebP to JPG instead.

Need to cut out a subject first?

If the WebP has a busy background you want gone, remove the background and export a transparent PNG.

Convert WebP to PNG without losing quality

PNG is lossless, so every pixel from the WebP is stored unchanged. Width, height and colours stay the same, and the result keeps full resolution for HD artwork.

Lossless, and packed small

The PNG is written with OxiPNG, which squeezes the file without touching a single pixel. You get a high quality file that is as compact as lossless allows.

A lossy WebP stays as it was

If the original was a lossy WebP, any compression softness is already in the pixels. PNG preserves it faithfully but cannot remove it. For small or blurry pictures, upscale the image after converting.

Is WebP better than PNG?

For websites, WebP is often better because it is smaller and loads faster. For editing, printing and design tools, PNG is safer because older software reads it without trouble. Going the other way? Use PNG to WebP to shrink PNGs for the web.

Lossless WebP vs lossy WebP

A lossless WebP converts to a PNG with identical pixels. A lossy WebP converts to a PNG that looks exactly like the WebP you started with.

What is WebP, and why switch to PNG?

What is WebP? It is a modern image format built for the web. It can store photos in a lossy mode or graphics in a lossless mode, and it supports transparency and animation. Because WebP files are small, many websites serve every picture that way.

Why images end up as WebP files

When you right-click and save a picture from a website, you get whatever the site served, so a logo or product shot often arrives as a WebP file. That is fine in a browser, but an older photo editor, a word processor or a print driver may not open it.

Convert once, open it anywhere

A PNG is a lossless copy that nearly every program understands. Presentations, documents and design apps accept it without complaint, and the transparent areas come along too.

One image or a whole folder

The steps are the same either way, and it stays free every time: no credits, no trial, and nothing is uploaded at all. To batch convert WebP to PNG for a whole folder, simply select all the files at once. The same works to convert multiple WebP to PNG files in one go.

Common uses: stickers, logos, Cricut and printing

Most people convert because another program needs a PNG.

  • WhatsApp sticker files: a WhatsApp sticker is usually a 512×512 WebP. Convert the WebP sticker to PNG to edit it or use it in a design.
  • Cricut: cutting-machine software often expects PNG with transparency for print-then-cut designs.
  • Logos: a transparent PNG logo drops cleanly onto slides, letterheads and videos.
  • Printing: a print shop may ask for PNG or JPG, not WebP.
  • Editing: keep a lossless master while you crop, add text or watermark.

Animated WebP

PNG here is a still image, so an animated WebP becomes a single still picture. Keep the original WebP if you need the motion.

Bulk conversion with a ZIP download

Add up to 30 WebP files, each up to 25 MB. In bulk WebP to PNG mode they convert in a background worker, and results appear as they finish with the before and after size for each file and totals for the batch.

  1. Select or drop all the WebP images together.
  2. Leave transparency on, or choose one fill colour for all.
  3. Download each PNG, or use Download all as ZIP to get one WebP to PNG ZIP.

Why is my PNG bigger than the WebP?

WebP compresses more tightly than PNG, and a lossy WebP is much smaller than any lossless file. A bigger PNG file size is normal. To reduce PNG size, set a longest-side limit or compress the PNG afterwards.

Files are detected by their bytes

A file named .png that is really a WebP inside is still read correctly, because the converter checks the actual content.

Using it on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac

  • iPhone and iPad: open this page in Safari and choose the WebP from Photos or the Files app. The PNG then saves to Files or Photos.
  • WebP to PNG on Android: open the page in Chrome and pick from Downloads or the gallery. Options appear in a bottom sheet.
  • WebP to PNG on Windows: drag files from File Explorer, or paste a copied image with Ctrl+V.
  • WebP to PNG on Mac: drag files from Finder. It works in Safari, Chrome and Firefox.

No app or extension needed

You do not need a converter for PC, a phone app or a browser extension. In Chrome, copy the picture, paste it here and download. For more formats, the image converter handles any image type.
