How to resize an image in four steps

  1. Add your images

Drag and drop, pick files or paste with Ctrl+V. Resize up to 30 images of 25 MB each; iPhone HEIC photos open directly.

  2. Pick a preset or a size

Choose a preset such as Instagram post or SSC photo, or type a size in pixels, longest side, percent or print size in cm, mm or inches with DPI.

  3. Decide how the shape fits

If the new shape differs, choose Fill & crop (with a focus point or Keep the face), Add borders, Fit inside or Stretch. Set a KB window if a form needs one.

  4. Check and download

Each result shows its new pixels and file size. Compare with the original, then download files one by one or as a ZIP.

A free image resizer for every job

LoveImage lets you resize image files online in seconds, right in your browser. Your photos are processed on your own device and never uploaded, which matters when you are working with ID photos and signatures.

This image resizer covers the everyday jobs people actually have: making a picture fit Instagram, shrinking a camera photo for email, preparing a passport photo in cm, or meeting a strict 20–50 KB limit on an exam portal. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Four ways to set the size

  • Pixels – type width and height, with the aspect ratio locked or unlocked.
  • Longest side – for example 1600 px, whatever the orientation.
  • Percent – 50% halves both sides.
  • Print size – cm, mm or inches at a DPI you choose, and the DPI is written into the file.

Formats you can resize

You can resize jpg, resize png, WebP, GIF and HEIC photos. PNG transparency is kept, so you can resize png without losing transparency for logos and stickers.

More than a basic picture resizer

A simple picture resizer or image size changer only scales pixels. Here you also get presets, print sizes, KB limits and face-aware cropping, so you can resize photo online for a real destination instead of guessing numbers. You can even resize pictures online in a batch and change photo size for a whole album in one pass.

GIF, WebP, SVG and HEIC

You can resize gif files, resize webp image files from websites and resize heic photo files from an iPhone without converting them first. To resize svg online, the vector is drawn at your chosen pixel size. If you just need to resize jpeg online, it works exactly like JPG.

Resize image in pixels, cm, inches or percentage

Different jobs describe size in different units. The photo resizer accepts all of them, so you do not have to convert anything by hand.

Resize image in pixels

Screens and websites think in pixels. To resize image in pixels, type the width; with the lock on, the height follows so the picture keeps its shape. Common targets are resize image to 1920x1080 for a desktop wallpaper or slide, resize image to 1080x1080 for a square post, and resize image to 600x600 pixels for a profile photo or product thumbnail.

Resize image in cm, mm and inches

Print and ID rules use physical sizes. Choose Print size, pick cm, mm or inches and set the DPI. To resize image in cm for a 3.5×4.5 cm photo at 300 DPI, the tool works out 413×531 pixels for you. You can also resize image in inches (2×2 in for a US passport) or resize image in mm (35×45 mm).

Resize image by percentage and longest side

To resize image by percentage, pick 25%, 50% or 75%. Longest side is best for batches with mixed portrait and landscape photos: every picture ends up no bigger than your number on its long edge.

What does DPI mean?

DPI (dots per inch) tells a printer how large to print the pixels. 300 DPI is standard for photo prints. Changing DPI alone does not change pixels, which is why the tool calculates pixels from your print size and then writes the DPI into the file, so you can resize image to 300 dpi correctly. This also answers the common question what is DPI: it is a printing instruction, not a quality setting.

Resize image dimensions for a slide or wallpaper

To resize image dimensions for a presentation, 1920×1080 fits a 16:9 slide. For a phone wallpaper, resize image to 1080x1920, and for a portrait post, resize image to 1080x1350.

Resize image in KB for online forms

Government and exam portals often care about file size as much as pixels. The KB window lets you set “at least” and “at most” limits, so you can resize image in kb and get a file the portal accepts the first time.

Resize image to 20KB, 50KB or 100KB

Set the upper limit to 50 KB and the tool finds the best quality that fits. The same works to resize image to 20kb, resize image to 100kb, resize image to 200kb or resize image to 1mb.

Minimum sizes: the problem most tools ignore

Some forms reject files that are too small, for example anything under 20 KB. Most compressors can only shrink, so a tiny signature fails. Here, if the result would fall below your minimum, the tool pads it safely so the file lands inside the window. That makes it easy to resize image to 20kb to 50kb exactly as a notice asks. You can also resize image to 50kb with just an upper limit when the minimum is not stated.

Photo resize for govt exam form uploads

A photo resize for govt exam form job usually has three rules: format (JPG), pixels and KB. When you resize photo for exam form portals, pick the preset first; if the exam is not listed, type the pixels and fill in the KB window by hand. The same steps work whenever you resize image for exam form uploads for state boards, universities or scholarships.

When to use compression instead

If you only need a smaller file and the pixels do not matter, use the image compressor with exact KB targets. Use the resizer when the form lists both pixels and KB.

Photo and signature resizer for exam forms

The Exam & ID presets set pixels and KB limits together, so you can resize photo and signature for most Indian recruitment forms in one go.

PresetPixelsFile size

IBPS photo200×23020–50 KB
IBPS signature140×6010–20 KB
IBPS left thumb20–50 KB
UPSC photo20–300 KB
NEET / JEE photo10–200 KB
PAN photo213×213under 30 KB

Photo resizer for SSC form

If you want to resize photo for ssc in one step, this is it. Choose the SSC photo preset: the picture becomes 413×531 pixels between 20 and 50 KB. For the signature, pick the SSC signature preset. It is the quickest photo resizer for ssc form uploads.

UPSC photo and signature resizer

The UPSC presets follow the commission’s wider limits. As a upsc photo and signature resizer, they save you from guessing, though you should still check the current notification. To resize photo for upsc with a stricter limit, simply lower the “at most” number.

IBPS, RRB, NEET and PAN

To resize photo for ibps form uploads, use the 200×230 preset; the thumb preset handles a thumb impression resize for the left thumb. The same presets suit resize photo for rrb railway form portals with similar rules. You can resize photo for neet application or resize photo for pan card with their own presets, and resize photo 200x230 pixels by hand if a notice asks for it.

Signature resize tips

For a clean signature resize, sign in black ink on white paper, crop the signature tightly, then pick the preset. It is then simple to resize signature to 20kb or resize signature to 10kb.

Passport size photo resize in cm and inches

For a passport size photo resize, choose the passport preset (35×45 mm) or the US passport preset (2×2 in). Fill & crop with Keep the face centres the head automatically, so you do not have to line it up by hand.

Resize image to 3.5cm x 4.5cm

To resize image to 3.5cm x 4.5cm, pick the passport preset or type 35×45 mm in Print size at 300 DPI. The file carries the DPI, so photo shops print it at the right size.

Resize image to 2x2 inches

To resize image to 2x2 inches for a US visa or passport, choose the US passport preset. At 300 DPI that is 600×600 pixels.

What is the size of passport photo in pixels?

Knowing the passport photo size in pixels saves a lot of trial and error.

At 300 DPI, 35×45 mm is about 413×531 pixels and 2×2 in is 600×600 pixels. When you resize photo to passport size online (or resize image to passport size for a visa), these are the numbers the tool uses. For a plain background, first remove the background.

Resize image for Instagram, YouTube and other social media

As a social media image resizer, the tool includes presets for the sizes platforms actually use, so your pictures are not cropped oddly after upload.

PresetSize (px)

Resize image for Instagram

To resize image for instagram, pick post, portrait, story or profile. If you want to resize image for instagram post without cropping, choose Add borders; the whole photo fits with a colour border you pick.

Stories and pins

To resize image for instagram story, use 1080×1920. To resize image for pinterest, the pin preset gives a tall 2:3 image.

YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and X

To resize image for youtube thumbnail 1280x720, choose the thumbnail preset; you can also resize image to 1280x720 by hand in Pixels mode. There are also presets to resize image for facebook cover, resize image for linkedin banner and resize image for twitter header (X).

WhatsApp DP and profile pictures

To resize image for whatsapp dp or any resize image for profile picture job, use the square WhatsApp DP preset with Keep the face, then crop it to a circle if you like.

Change the shape without squashing faces

When the new size has a different shape from the original, something has to give. You choose what.

Fill & crop

The picture fills the frame and the edges are trimmed. Pick a spot on the 3×3 focus grid, or turn on Keep the face to centre on the person automatically.

Add borders or fit inside

Add borders keeps the whole picture and fills the gaps with a colour. Fit inside keeps the whole picture and simply makes it smaller, so you resize image without cropping and resize image keep aspect ratio at the same time.

Stretch

Stretch forces the exact size and distorts the picture. Every other option lets you resize image without distortion. Use it only for backgrounds or textures.

Difference between resizing and cropping

Resizing changes how many pixels describe the whole picture. Cropping removes part of the picture. To change image size and remove edges precisely, use the crop tool first.

Resize image without losing quality

Making a picture smaller is safe: you are throwing away pixels you do not need. Making it bigger is where quality suffers, because the tool has to invent pixels.

Make image smaller

To make image smaller or reduce image dimensions, just set the new size; it is the easiest way to make picture smaller for a document. The resizer uses high-quality resampling, so edges stay clean.

Enlarging photos

If you enlarge image online by more than 1.5×, the tool warns you and links to AI upscaling, which reconstructs detail much better than simple resizing.

Tips

  • Resize once from the original, not repeatedly.
  • Choose PNG for text and logos, JPG for photos.
  • After resizing, compress the image if the KB size still matters.

Bulk image resizer for many photos

As a bulk image resizer it handles up to 30 images at once, each up to 25 MB. You can batch resize images online with one preset, and results appear as they finish.

Resize multiple images at once

To resize multiple images at once with mixed orientations, use Longest side. Every photo keeps its own shape but none is larger than your limit.

Rename pattern

Name files automatically with {name}, {w}, {h} and {n}. For example {name}-{w}x{h} gives beach-1080x1350.jpg. Then download everything as a ZIP.

Resize image for website, email and printing

To resize image for website use the Web 1920, 1200 or 400 presets. To resize image for email (or resize image for email attachment on a phone), 1600 px longest side is plenty, and to resize image for printing or resize image for print shops choose Print size with 300 DPI.

Resize images on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac

The tool runs in any modern browser, so there is no app to install.

Resize image on iPhone and Android

To resize image on iphone, open the page in Safari and pick from Photos; HEIC opens directly. To resize image on android, use Chrome and pick from the gallery. Options open as a bottom sheet, so it is easy to resize photo on mobile with one thumb. Everything described here works the same when you resize image on mobile or on a laptop.

Instead of Paint or Preview

People often resize image in windows paint or resize image on mac preview. Both work for one file, but neither has exam presets, a KB window or face-aware cropping, and neither handles a batch as easily.

Settings remembered

Your last preset and options are saved for next time, so repeating a weekly job takes seconds.
