Best image format for web
WebP and AVIF give the smallest files at good quality and keep transparency, so they are usually the best image format for web pages. Keep a JPG or PNG copy for places that do not accept them.
Best format for printing
For printing, a high-quality JPG or a lossless PNG or TIFF is the safe choice. Print shops rarely accept WebP or AVIF.
Lossless vs lossy
Lossless formats keep every pixel exactly. Lossy formats discard detail you are unlikely to notice to make files much smaller. The quality slider controls how much.
Convert images to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF
The four everyday targets each have simple, sensible settings.
Image to JPG
Choose JPG for the widest compatibility. Transparent areas are filled with white or any colour you pick, and you can keep date and camera information in the JPG. JPG uses MozJPEG for sharp results at small sizes.
Image to PNG
PNG is lossless and keeps transparency. Files are packed with OxiPNG so they are as small as lossless allows.
Convert to WebP or AVIF
Both offer lossy and lossless modes and keep transparency. Choose image to WebP for broad browser support, or image to AVIF for the smallest files. Both are ideal for sites that care about page speed.
Longest-side limit
Set a longest-side limit, such as 1920 px, to shrink big photos while converting. Leave it off to keep the full size.
Special formats: HEIC, SVG, GIF, RAW, PDF and ICO
Some formats need a little extra care, and the converter handles each one properly.
HEIC converter for iPhone photos
iPhone photos saved as HEIC are decoded directly in your browser, on Windows, Android or any other system. Nothing is uploaded, and the result opens anywhere.
SVG converter
SVG is a vector format, so it has no fixed pixel size. You choose the longest side and the converter rasterises it sharply at that size, with transparency kept for PNG, WebP and AVIF.
GIF input and animated GIF output
When a GIF becomes a JPG or PNG, you get its first frame as a still picture, because those formats cannot animate. Going the other way, the animated GIF maker combines several images into one GIF with frame time, loop and order controls.
Camera RAW and PSD
RAW files such as CR2 to JPG, NEF to JPG, ARW to JPG and DNG to JPG are converted on our server, as are Photoshop PSD files. They are processed in memory and nothing is stored.

Every image becomes one page. Save one combined PDF or one PDF per image, with page size set to the picture, A4 or Letter, plus a margin. An A4 PDF is handy for applications and printing.

Why is my converted file bigger?
Converting to a lossless format such as PNG, or from an efficient format such as WebP or AVIF to JPG, often makes files larger. That is normal. Choose a lossy target or lower the quality slider if size matters.
