A free image flipper that works in your browser
This page lets you flip image online free of charge: add a picture, choose a direction, download. It is a simple online image flipper for one selfie and a batch tool for a folder of product shots, logos or designs.
People search for it in many ways: flip photo online, flip picture online, mirror photo online, or just flip image. They all mean the same thing, reversing the pixels along one axis, and that is exactly what this flip image tool does.
Flip image without uploading
The flipping happens on your own device, inside the browser tab. Your photos are never uploaded to our server, so you can flip image without uploading private pictures such as ID documents or family photos. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
No sign-up, no watermark, no daily limit
You can flip image no sign up needed, and every download is a clean file, so you flip image without watermark marks of any kind. There is no daily limit wall and nothing to install.
Flip image horizontally, vertically, or both
There are two basic flips. A horizontal flip mirrors the picture from left to right, as if you held it up to a mirror. A vertical flip swaps top and bottom, so the photo turns upside down like a reflection in still water.
| Option | What changes | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Flip mirror (horizontal) | Left becomes right | Selfies, backwards text, transfer printing, changing which way a subject faces |
| Flip upside down (vertical) | Top becomes bottom | Reflections, creative layouts, patterns |
| Both together | Left-right and top-bottom | Same result as turning the photo 180 degrees |
Flip image horizontally online
To flip image horizontally online, pick Flip mirror. This is the option most people want: it lets you flip photo left to right, reverse image left right for a design, or swap left and right in photo compositions so a person looks into the page instead of out of it.
Flip image vertically online
To flip image vertically online, choose Flip upside down. Use it when you want to flip photo upside down for an artistic reflection, or when a scan came out the wrong way up and a vertical flip is what fixes it. If you only need to turn picture upside down without mirroring, a 180 degree turn is the better choice, covered below.
Flip image both horizontally and vertically
Apply both flips and you get the same pixels as a 180 degree turn. It is a neat check that the tool behaves as expected, and a quick way to invert image direction in both axes at once.
Un-mirror a selfie from the front camera
The most common reason to mirror a picture is a selfie. Many phones show the front camera mirror view while you frame the shot, because that feels natural, like looking into a mirror. Some then save the photo mirrored too, so text on your T-shirt or a signboard behind you reads backwards.
Why is my selfie mirrored?
The camera itself sees you the way other people do. The phone mirrors the preview to feel familiar, and depending on a setting it may keep that mirrored version when it saves. So a selfie mirrored in your gallery is not a fault, only a setting.
How to unflip a selfie
Add the photo, press Flip mirror, download. That is all it takes to unmirror selfie shots and fix mirrored selfie text. You can un-mirror selfie batches too: add a whole set from a trip and flip them in one go. If you prefer the mirrored look, you can do the opposite and create a mirror selfie from a normal one.
Fix backwards text in photo
Any reverse text in image, like a shop name, a jersey number or a book title, is fixed by one horizontal flip. Check the preview before you save, since you can zoom up to 16 times to read small letters.
Mirror image for printing and crafts
Many printing methods need a mirror image, because the design is printed face down and transferred. If you print the normal version, the text ends up backwards on the final item.
Mirror image for t shirt printing and iron-on
For a mirror image for t shirt printing on inkjet transfer sheets, flip the design horizontally before you print. The same goes when you need to reverse image for heat transfer paper or mirror text image for iron on patches. Treat it as the standard step for any mirror image for transfer paper.
Sublimation, Cricut and embroidery
People who flip image for sublimation printing or mirror design for cricut iron-on vinyl follow the same rule: mirror first, print or cut, then press. Some also flip image for embroidery files and flip image for tattoo stencil sheets that are applied face down.
Glass, flex banners and Indian festive designs
Printing on the back of glass or acrylic needs a mirror image for glass printing so it reads correctly from the front. A mirror image for flex banner printing is sometimes asked for by backlit sign makers. Artists also use a mirror image for mehndi or rangoli design to make both halves of a pattern match.
In short, knowing how to mirror an image for printing saves wasted sheets. Flip one test copy, print it on plain paper, and hold it up to a window to check.
Everyday uses for a photo flipper
A photo flipper is useful well beyond selfies. Here are situations where a quick horizontal flip or vertical flip improves a picture.
Online shops and thumbnails
You may want to flip product photo direction for ecommerce so every item in a row faces the same way. Designers also flip image for thumbnail layouts so the subject looks towards the title text, which feels more balanced.
Social media and profile pictures
You can flip photo for instagram post grids, flip profile picture shots so your face points into the frame, or flip photo for whatsapp dp when the circle crop cuts the wrong side. After flipping, you can also crop the image to a square or 4:5 frame for the exact post shape.
Art, drawing and design
Artists flip drawing to check proportions: a fresh, mirrored view shows lopsided eyes or a leaning building at once. You can also flip image for symmetrical design work, placing the original and the mirror side by side.
Forms and documents
If a scanned photo or document came out reversed, flipping it back is quick. Note that exam and ID forms usually ask for normal, unmirrored photos, so flip photo for passport form uploads only when the original was saved mirrored. Then resize the photo to the exact pixels and KB the form wants.
Flip versus rotate: what is the difference?
This is one of the most asked questions. The difference between flip and rotate is simple: a flip reverses the picture like a mirror, while a rotation turns the whole picture around its centre without reversing anything.
| Aspect | Flip | Rotate |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Becomes backwards (horizontal flip) | Stays readable, just tilted or turned |
| Left and right | Swap | Stay the same relative to each other |
| Typical fix | Mirrored selfie, transfer print | Sideways phone photo, tilted horizon |
Is flipping an image the same as rotating 180?
No. A single vertical flip mirrors the photo, so text reads backwards and upside down. Turning 180 degrees keeps text readable, only upside down. Only flipping both ways at once matches a 180 degree turn.
Difference between mirror and flip image
People use the words loosely. A mirrored image usually means a horizontal flip, while a flipped image may mean either direction. On this page, Flip mirror is horizontal and Flip upside down is vertical, so there is no confusion.
Flip and rotate image online in one tool
The flip image page shares one engine with our rotate image tool, so you can rotate and flip image files in the same place: turn them left, right or 180 degrees, and flip them, before one download.
Straighten, auto-straighten and sideways photos
Besides the flip, the tool can fix a crooked horizon. This is handy when you flip and straighten image files in one pass.
Straighten up to 45 degrees
Drag the slider or type a numeric angle for a precise fix. Auto-straighten looks for the horizon and straight edges, such as walls, door frames or table tops, and suggests the angle for you.
Crop the corners or keep the whole picture
Tilting a photo leaves empty corners. By default they are cropped away. If you would rather keep every pixel, choose to keep the whole image and fill the corners with transparency or a colour of your choice.
Sideways photos fixed automatically
Phone photos often carry a hidden EXIF orientation flag that says the picture is sideways. The tool reads that flag and saves photos upright, so a picture that looked fine on your phone does not turn sideways on a website later.
Batch flip images and choose which photos change
You can batch flip images instead of opening each file. Add up to 30 photos of up to 25 MB each and flip multiple images at once.
Apply to all, landscape or portrait
Choose whether a turn or flip applies to all photos, only landscape photos, or only portrait ones. That makes it easy to bulk mirror photos online from a mixed shoot without touching the rest.
Per-photo control
Every photo also has its own card, so you can flip photos in bulk and still fix a single odd one. Undo and redo work with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z.
Results and downloads
Results appear as they finish, with the before and after size of each file and a total. Failed files can be retried, and Download all gives you a ZIP. Hold to compare (or press B) shows the original, and Copy image puts a result on your clipboard.
Quality, file size and formats
A flip only moves pixels around; it does not invent or remove detail. That is why you can flip image without losing quality in any visible way.
Does flipping a photo reduce quality?
Not visibly. The tool keeps the full resolution, and the output stays close to the original file size. You get to flip image keep quality results that look the same as the source, only mirrored.
Flip image keep EXIF details
Date and camera information is kept, so photos still sort correctly in your gallery by the day they were taken. That makes it easy to flip image keep exif data for photo archives.
Which files can you flip?
You can flip jpg photos, flip png graphics and screenshots, flip webp image files from websites, and flip heic photo files straight from an iPhone. If you need a different format afterwards, try converting JPG to PNG or the other converters. For a flip screenshot job, or to flip svg or logo image artwork, work from a PNG export for the cleanest result.
Want to go further than a mirror? The photo editor adds light, colour and text, and the meme generator is great for a mirrored reaction picture with a caption.
