How your RAW files are handled
Browsers cannot decode camera RAW, so these files go to our server. Each travels over HTTPS, is processed in memory, and nothing is stored after you receive the JPG. That keeps raw to jpg secure for client shoots and personal photos.
What is a RAW file?
A RAW file is the near-untouched data from your camera sensor. It is not yet a finished picture: colour has to be worked out from the sensor pattern (called demosaicing), and white balance, contrast and sharpening are applied afterwards.
Why are RAW files so large?
RAW keeps 12 or 14 bits per colour and the full dynamic range the sensor captured. A 24 MP RAW is typically 25–30 MB, while a high quality JPG of the same shot is about 5–8 MB. The raw file size difference is why cards and drives fill up quickly.

Should I shoot RAW or JPEG?
Shoot RAW when light is tricky or you plan to edit; shoot JPEG for quick everyday shots. If you shoot RAW only, convert raw to jpg whenever you need to share.
Convert CR2, CR3, NEF and ARW by brand
Canon raw to jpg: CR2 and CR3

Why your JPG may look different from the camera preview
A common surprise: raw to jpg looks different from what you saw on the camera screen. The camera preview is its own JPG, with the maker's colour style baked in. A RAW converter makes its own choices for contrast and colour.
Raw looks dull or flat
RAW data has no in-camera contrast or saturation curve, so it can look flatter. To give it punch, open the result in the photo editor and use Auto enhance, or adjust contrast, vibrance and white balance by hand. Think of it as a simple raw photo editor step after conversion.

If skin tones look too warm or cool, change temperature and tint in the editor. Compare with the original using hold to compare (B key) to judge the change.
